EZL Explains: Worlds Group B

The 2017 Vainglory World Championship is an enormous esports event that simply can’t be missed. From the 14th to the 17th of December, the entire Vainglory community will be eagerly watching to see which team will be crowned the next World Champions in Singapore.

As we approach the launch of the championship, at EZL we are extremely excited to be able to hype up the event. In this article, we will take a look at the makeup of Group B of Worlds. At first glance, it appears to be a fairly balanced group: with each team having a decent chance to advance. However, at closer inspection a wildcard factor is revealed – the unknown quantity of the newcomers to the world stage, Team Kraken. Let’s explore the background of the teams that made it to this group, and predict what what will happen during the Group Stage of Worlds for these teams! As a reminder, each series in this stage will consist of two matches.

G2 Esports – EU

G2 Esports is a team that should not be underestimated. The Unified Live Championships that take place between Europe and North America are some of the biggest competitions in Vainglory Esports, and while Europe hasn’t performed strongly in the past, the live event experience that G2 Esports has obtained will be invaluable in the high-pressure environment of Worlds.

This team consistently reigns over other teams in their region, including Mousesports and SK Gaming. Thanks to their team which is made up of DarkPotato as the jungler, Hundor as the carry and KeanuNakoa as the captain, they are able to emulate North American teams with a very aggressive playstyle. G2 Esports secured the first place of the Autumn Season of Vainglory8 in Europe, which allowed them to qualify for Worlds as the only team from their region.

G2 Esports has a difficult road ahead of them if they wish to make it to the next stage of Vainglory Worlds, but due to the hypercarry abilities of Hundor in combination with the team’s strong synergy, it is not an impossible goal. They aim to change the perception that Europe cannot perform internationally, and this roster has the skills to do just that.

Team Kraken – CN

By placing second in China’s Autumn Season of Vainglory8 behind Hunters, this team qualified automatically to attend Worlds due to Hunters already having secured a spot. Team Kraken now has a chance to make life very difficult for the other members of Group B.

The roster of this team is made up by MrDogCK, MuaMyWawa and BaBaLA, with much mystery surrounding the team. BaBaLA is the veteran, having previously attended Vainglory Worlds in 2016 while a member of Hunters, and is sure to lead his teammates around the Fold. However, there is very little known about the other two members of the team, which has the potential to worry G2 Esports and DetonatioN Gaming.

This unknown quantity of sorts may end up playing a huge role in the outcome of this group, and we’re definitely excited to see how well Team Kraken perform in a global arena!

DetonatioN Gaming – EA

DetonatioN Gaming was granted an international wildcard to this event, and returns to the Vainglory World Championship with an identical roster to that of last year.  While not having secured automatic qualification due to the dominance of Korean teams in East Asia, this team should not be slept on – consistently performing well against both ACE Gaming and ROX Armada is no mean feat. DetonatioN Gaming even won more points than ROX Armada in the Autumn Season of Vainglory8 East Asia, and head to Worlds hoping to destroy the international competiton.

DetonatioN is formed by tatuki217 as the jungler, ViViRoyaL as the carry and ViViQIZ as the captain. Their playstyle is aggressive but also patient, with the ability to win clutch teamfights and capitalise on opportunities in an instant. Without the presence of their Korean rivals in Group B, we may well see DetonatioN Gaming dominate their group and head into the elimination stages with supreme confidence and form.

Once again, choosing a particular team over another is the hardest part of the entire process. Keep in mind that this prediction is only our point of view, and will not necessarily be similar to your thoughts. We base this on our impression of important factors which will influence the teams’ performances at Vainglory Worlds 2017: regional advantages, previous live event experience, Vainglory8 performances this year, and the individual skills and mechanics of each player.

We believe that the final standings of Group B will be as below:

1st: DetonatioN Gaming

2nd: G2 Esports

3rd: Team Kraken
